Why Dru Yoga?

Dru Yoga is gentle yet potent. The flowing moves, breath work and visualisation combine to give a class that nurtures your whole being, body, mind and spirit, leaving you feeling positive, empowered, and energised.

Dru is an accessible form of yoga, practised by people of all fitness levels and abilities. Modifications and adaptations accomodate those at the beginning of their yoga journey right through to life long practitioners, those with health considerations* joint issues*, the athletic and more.

Dru comes from the Sanskrit word "dhruva", which refers to the stillness that can be experienced in both Dru Yoga and Meditation. This stillness allows us to see our actions and surroundings from a different viewpoint and to act from a more considered place.

Dru has given me endless gifts through techniques learnt, those that quieten a rushing mind, energise a fatigued body, uplift a dulled spirit and help feel the joy of a moment.. Dru Yoga has given me knowledge, means and ability to bring greater peace into my life.

I am certainly not the only one to benefit. At least 80% of participants involved in professional published trials relating to Dru Yoga have found Dru Yoga to:

  • tone the physical body.

  • aid in the development of greater strength and balance.

  • ease pain and fatigue.

  • relieve stress and tension.

  • build resilience and positivity.

  • bring greater harmony and ease to the emotions.

  • aid clarity of thought and memory.

  • help one feel more supported in times of transition and challenge.

  • feel a greater peacefulness within.

When I was introduced to Dru I did not need another cardio class, weights class or physically exhausting and demanding fitness routine. I was seeking a means to revive and restore, to find moments to relax and to better deal with the every day. I wished to be more responsive rather than reactionary, to share my calm and positivity in lieu of my anxiety and worry.

After the first Dru Yoga class I thought, “this is different”. I felt a quiet calm, my heart seemed slightly stronger, a little more full perhaps. The effects didn’t rush in and bowl me over, they simply sat gently with me while I questioned if this would do me much good, I wasn’t sweating profusely, wasn’t bright red, didn’t have those jelly legs and racing heart yet I did have something that I couldn’t quite sum up immediately, and it somehow felt incredibly right, so I continued. The wonderfully positive effects of the classes grew in potency and duration as my practise developed.

There are so many differing forms of yoga, yet for me, the essence of the practice must be to bring peace and harmony to and through the various levels of our being, physical, intellectual, emotional and spiritual, it must be both trauma sensitive and adaptable to a wide age range and varying stages of fitness, health and wellbeing.

For me Dru Yoga and Meditation delivers on all these levels.  It is calming, centring, it builds peace of mind and aids in developing resilience while assisting in clarity of thought as well as that vital space between thoughts.

Yoga has, bit by bit, helped extend my ability to live with and manage change, transition and loss. It can not turn back time but it may too help you.

Studying the Dru Yoga Teacher Training program, run over 3 years, the Meditation Teacher Training program run over 2 years plus various other courses, such as the Mastery of Yoga ( 1 1/2 yrs), Kids and Teens TT, Back Care and Wellbeing TT, Breath Work Coaching and part 1 of the Sound and Mantra course I have been given wonderful knowledge which I feel privileged to pass on through my classes.

I sincerely hope you may take the opportunity to discover Dru Yoga at YOGAMON.
